  • About John W. Davis

    John Davis was gifted with a sharp mind, a tenacious focus, and a penchant for problem-solving, all of which he employed to their fullest potential for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer at Ford Motor Co.

    Born on October 27, 1962, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, John’s sensibilities were shaped early by a strong sense of discipline and respect for hard work. He attended Kemper Hall and Tremper High School before earning his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a foundation that launched a distinguished engineering career defined by rigor and ingenuity. At Ford Motor Co., John built an international reputation as an exceptional engineer in tool and die manufacturing, design, and process engineering.

    John took immense pride in his work at Ford, where his contributions left a lasting imprint. He played an essential role in the development of the all-aluminum F-series truck and multiple Mustang models from the 2000s and 2010s. His inventive thinking led to two patents in tool and die process engineering that continue to influence industry standards. Across more than three decades with the company, he earned the respect of peers and leadership alike for his unwavering commitment to precision, durability, and a “can-do” approach to engineering challenges.

    Beyond his technical achievements, John was a natural leader and mentor. He believed that knowledge and experience carried an obligation to be shared. He held high standards—not only for the quality of work produced, but for the integrity and accountability of those producing it.

    John approached his personal passions with the same pursuit of mastery that defined his professional life. He was an experienced fly fisherman, a superior woodworker, and a skilled gunsmith, a practice that reflected his deep respect for craftsmanship and tradition.

    John found joy in a wide range of pleasures, including well-crafted beer, music, long bicycle rides, a competitive game of darts, and the study of history. These interests were pursued with the same attentiveness and appreciation that he gave to his work and craftsmanship.

    John’s legacy is defined not only by his professional achievements, but by his strongly defined character and the foundational belief that excellence is both a noble pursuit and a moral responsibility.
